[Seoul = Newspim] Reporter Kim A-young – The Korea International Trade Association (KITA) and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the 62nd Trade Day ceremony on the 4th at COEX in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by over 1,000 participants, including Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, senior government officials, heads of related organizations, and contributors to the nation’s trade sector.
This year’s ceremony, held under the theme “K-Trade: Opening a New Path,” aimed to reflect on the strength of Korea’s trade performance—expected to achieve a record-high export level despite external uncertainties such as U.S. tariff measures—and to honor the dedication of those who have contributed to the nation’s trade achievements.
In his opening remarks, Yoon Jin-sik, Chairman of KITA, stated, “With the global order increasingly driven by protectionist policies, competition and trade friction between nations will only intensify. KITA will fully leverage its overseas networks to actively defend the interests of Korean companies in major markets such as the United States and the EU. We will also spearhead efforts to open new markets for Korean trade by promoting consumer goods linked to the Korean Wave, including food and cosmetics.”
During the ceremony, awards were presented to 1,689 companies for the Export Tower Awards, 598 individuals for their contributions to trade promotion, and 80 recipients of the KITA Chairman’s Award.
In the Export Tower category, representatives from 10 major companies—including Hyundai Glovis (6 Billion Dollar Export Tower), Daehan Shipbuilding (900 Million Dollar Export Tower), Hanmi Semiconductor (300 Million Dollar Export Tower), and SM Entertainment (100 Million Dollar Export Tower)—took the stage on behalf of the 1,689 awardees. Notably, Hyundai Glovis received the 6 Billion Dollar Export Tower through increased exports of semi-knockdown (SKD) components supported by its global supply chain.
In the trade promotion contributor category, 10 individuals, including Jeong Joon-cheol, Vice President of Hyundai Motor Company; Bang Tae-yong, CEO of Bukwang Metal; and Lee Chan-jae, CEO of Wonil Wire, representing a total of 598 honorees, were recognized on stage. Vice President Jeong was credited for enhancing the nation’s negotiating power in U.S. trade relations through contributions to supply chain stability and completion of new manufacturing facilities. CEO Bang was recognized for strengthening the competitiveness of the non-ferrous metals industry by developing and supplying high-quality essential copper tubes.
The ceremony concluded with the "Path of Light" performance, featuring Korea’s leading industries—including semiconductors, automobiles, shipbuilding, content, food, and beauty. The performance symbolized the determination and passion of Korea’s trade professionals illuminating the future of K-Trade as it continues to expand globally.
